Project 16th

The Hills of Portland are home to some stunning homes with spectacular views and this 1990’s traditional is no exception. With a view to die for, the clients wanted to take full advantage and re-imagine their living room and entry way.

The family of 4 needed the space to function on multiple levels, a stunning welcome to guests and an entertaining space as well as a family retreat—somewhere for the kids to hang out (quite literally) and be practical for the family pet Lucy the Boston terrier.

The concept beautifully captures the view by creating a dark, moody space that frames the view, feels ultra modern and has a huge ‘wow’ factor. We removed acres of beige marble and replaced with stunning wide plank oak flooring with charcoal mono-coat finish. Rebuilt the fire place using Sho Sugi Ban ‘torched wood’ technique, a custom steel firebox and floating shelving. The concept called for two leather clad original Eero Aarnio bubble chairs to create an element of fun and indulgence, whilst two velvet sofas create a formal furniture plan ideal for guests and family. This project is still in progress. The photos are of the space as yet unfinished and shows the original intent of the design concept.
